We have the exact same issue here in Austria. The East of Austria is part of a shale basin that likely would be enough to make Austria energy independent if it was properly developed. But Austrians are lunatics when it comes to feel-good issues and will likely only budge when life becomes very, very uncomfortable. Our politicians reflect that mood. Thats why I have decided to pick up an initiative I pursued in 2013-14 and lobby for shale gas again. At least we will have fun.
Slower trains, more restricted road travel, colder homes – all because Britain’s political and media elite still cannot admit their renewable energy fantasy is a failure.
