Voila one of the big differences between so-called green energies and O&G – the greenies are happy to leave their ugly, decaying contraptions behind for all of us to pay for the wrecking. Oil companies usually pay a decommissioning bond before or while they exploit the well. I know that has not been done for very old wells but there still is money from the industry to take care of those. Still, this is bittersweet. What are they going to decommission? Stuff that would still have decades of useful life or only the stuff thats done anyhow?
