A giant blow to the fracking industry I reckon. I ask myself how the industry will go on without being able to drill in California. Wait a minute – might that be one more empty gesture? How many wells have been drilled in California over the last 10 years? It won’t change reality for the energy industry very much but it’s a very mighty reminder that those leaving California do so for good reason.

Californian Governor Gavin Newsom will ban new hydraulic fracturing permits in the coming years as the state pushes to eliminate net greenhouse-gas emissions by 2045.
