China says U.S. putting ‘knife to its neck’, hard to proceed on trade
China has blatantly disregarded anything that would have amounted to fairness when it comes to trade. The country is closed off from foreign markets. Its the old mercantilist system from Colbert revisited. Export as much as you can – don’t let anyone come in. Now the world starts to react to this and they don’t like it. Big deal.
A senior Chinese official said on Tuesday it is difficult to proceed with trade talks with the United States while Washington is putting “a knife to China’s neck”, a day after both sides heaped fresh tariffs on each other’s goods.
