Claim: Offering a Premium for Reliable Energy Would Hinder the Green Transition

A premium for reliable energy? How far have we come? There should be a marked penalty for unreliable energy. And if we left the market to its devices, it would take care of that. Companies and people should take in as much unreliable energy as they want, provided they shoulder the costs. We are still in direct subsidies territory with unreliables – haven’t we been told those would be gone more than a decade ago? We have not even started looking at the mountain of indirect subsidies and market skewing mechanisms that plague all of us. But we will – count on it.
