Climate Models: Worse Than Nothing?

I always hated models except in very narrowly defined, simple situations with very few variables. And I led Business Development for an energy trading company so I was exposed to models of all kinds pretty much all the time. Most of them were deceptive and used as an excuse for the lack of understanding of the fundamentals of a deal. But where it gets crazy is when people take models for reality. It never is and they always fail as they must. Models are like Crystal Meth to us weak humans – better don’t touch.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
