Could a new wave of urgent theatre hold the key to tackling climate change?

I recently subjected myself to a podcast on the ozone hole—a charming exercise in retro fearmongering—and, unsurprisingly, the voices were all of the zealot variety, mistaking conviction for evidence. Despite the tale being four decades old, it was still awash in “coulds” and “mights,” as if the science had been scribbled in crayon just yesterday. Of course, the gases blamed back then were relatively easy to swap out—no riots in the streets, no collapsed economies, just a quiet phase-out while consumers barely noticed. But now we’ve leveled up: demonizing CO₂, the very gas of life, and demanding that we dismantle modern civilization to appease the climate gods. Spoiler alert—life as we know it won’t survive the purge. And shockingly, the peasants object. Who would’ve guessed?
