EU sees no need to extend deal on Russian gas transit via Ukraine

The gas coming through the Ukrainian route comes from some very old gas fields such as Urengoy and Yamburg. Those fields have been in production partly since the late sixties. I once saw a report saying that both fields should be depleted by 2024 – that’s this year. Of course, new fields could be hooked up to the line but that’s expensive and who knows, maybe Tsar Vladimir does not want it anymore. It’s not that we can find new supplies – we don’t have much of a choice in any case regardless of war or not.
