Thats the problem with new stuff. We find out about its properties in time and we are not going to like all of them. The advantage of hydrocarbons is that we have known and used them for way longer than a century. very little in terms of nasty surprises we have to expect. We have not used hydrocarbons because they are hard to handle. We have used them for their convenience and their relative inherent safety. Just imagine what’s going to happen after the first ammonia leak on open seas. Just forget about ammonia transport after that. We should use what we know and not tickle the lab rats.
