Gazprom starts building ice-resistant platform for extreme conditions of Arctic field

The first to be implemented in such extreme ice and climate conditions – thats quite a mouthful. I have long argued that all the new gas fields in the Russian arctic are not on the cheap side. They are being developed by using a series of accounting tricks but we all know where those lead in the end. The time of cheap Russian gas is coming to an end – pretty quick so. And I wonder if – when one considers the cost of upstream development and transport – LNG imports to Russia would not be cheaper. That won’t happen for political reasons and national pride of course but the goose that lays golden eggs has a limp.
