Science, like everything else human, progresses in waves. There are periods of rapid advancement because people have real problems to deal with and those problems don’t allow for posturing or virtue signaling. Those are problems like access to basic energy services, clean water, safety, and education among many others. When a society becomes saturated, dogma builds up as first-level problems have gone away and are replaced by imagined problems. Until we are back to having to solve basic problems again. History repeats.
A failure of self-correction in science has compromised climate science’s ability to provide plausible views of our collective future.
