Atmospheric methane is today about 1,8 ppm. Thats about 2 molecules for every 999998 one finds. The number is so incredibly low because the atmosphere has a powerful mechanism to transform any free methane into harmless products. We don’t know how much methane is released into the atmosphere from natural sources. Satellites cannot measure such low concentrations and there are very few measuring stations. This is a cycle that functions well. Hydrates gazing out a bit more won’t change this.
