India accelerates energy push into Africa as global markets shift

India is uniquely positioned to partner with Africa—not just because it dominates the Indian Ocean, second only to the U.S., but because its companies are large, technically sharp, and seasoned in navigating complex, high-risk environments. Add to that the vast and well-rooted Indian diaspora across the continent, and you’ve got a strong launchpad for meaningful engagement. But let’s not romanticize it: Africa is still one of the toughest arenas on the planet for any foreign actor. Meanwhile, India’s hunger for energy is colossal, and while it holds real promise in expanding domestic oil and gas, there’s no guarantee it’ll be enough—so it must double down both at home and abroad. The opportunity is there, but the hustle has to match the ambition.
