Iraq exploring floating gas terminals to meet power demand

Does anyone believe that? One of the biggest oil producers on Earth, a country that flares so much gas that entire nations could fuel their industries with it, needs to import the very thing they flare using some of the most costly technology to do so. If this is not irony. Reducing gas flaring and doing something useful with the resulting product has been on the table for decades, and still, they did not get it moving. When there would be a simple method to get it going at once. Just allow others to take the gas if the oil developer does not. You won’t have to wait long until oil producers come up with plans themselves just to avoid having third parties stomping around on their concessions.

Iraq is in talks with several companies to secure two floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) by early June, as OPEC’s second-biggest producer tries to address power shortages caused by a U.S. move against Iran.
