Justin Rowlatt Thinks We Never Had Droughts!

Newspapers are full of the drought in Europe. Here in Austria, we see pictures of rivers and lakes in low water states. The biggest lake in Austria, the Neusiedler See has become much smaller. But I am also old enough to remember that during my childhood we had days when we could walk through some of the lakes in the Seewinkel dry footed. Those lakes are steppe lakes, very flat and they have often dried out completely. Not in some distant past but during my lifetime. But today it’s presented as if this was the first time in history. Any questions about why people don’t trust the media – especially those old enough to have experienced all this unprecedented stuff before?
