Shunter locomotives are perfect targets for LNG. They stay in one place for life so a small LNG fuelling station does the trick. It does not need huge tanks to drag a lot of fuel along and they often operate in urban environments where LNG’s ultra-low emissions profile should be popular. No more scorched black building along train routes anymore. Europes rail should be a major bonus to LNG’fication.
DiGas, a Latvian dual-fuel natural gas system manufacturer and Estonian state-owned energy company Enefit Kaevandused, have teamed up on retrofitting locomotives to run on LNG.
