I am a weird creature. I come from a family where academic achievement was looked at with some bewilderment. I was the first in my wider family to have an academic degree. And I did not get it the normal way. Just like the rest of my family, I learned a profession when I was younger in an apprenticeship. I went to college much later in my twenties when I had already worked on 4 continents. Why do I tell you all this? I have mingled with both worlds, the non-academic and the academic and I have met a lot of idiots with degrees and really smart people without and vice versa. It’s not the differentiating factor.

There is a special kind of argument you hear only from academic Experts. Non-academic non-Experts never use it; or, if they do, I’ve not seen any example (beyond parroting AEs). This academic…

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
