TotalEnergies CEO Not Ruling Out Return of Nord Stream Gas Pipelines

Someone who wants his patch in Russia back when things have simmered down enough and hence is ready to repeat anything he is thrown to please his possible host. North Stream has never been a truly profitable endeavor. It has always been cheaper to transit through Ukraine. That said, that won’t come back, not only because of the war but also because the old fields must be exhausted by now. And the new fields are much further north. But they are also way more expensive than the old fields in terms of production, refining, and also transport. Russia is running out of cheap natural gas, but thats not a message that can be thrown in the ether easily if you want the old world back.

TotalEnergies' CEO Patrick Pouyanne suggests that parts of the mothballed Nord Stream gas pipelines could return to service, citing Europe’s industrial need for competitive Russian gas, despite strong political opposition.
