He also freed Africans from something else. Undue expectation. They expect the developed world to shower them in cash if they make the right kind of noises and make nonsensical energy choices for their countries. They are nonsensical for developed countries as well, but developed countries have a lot more cash to throw at the made-up problem before things go truly awry. That said, Africans are used to things that do not work. Europeans and Americans are not. Guess where the people are going to be more pissed off in the end.
