US Green Impossibilities
It’s not a linear calculation. Green activists and policymakers seem to think that the more wind and solar resources are built out, the more we can cut back on other sources. But it’s not that easy. First, bigger wind and solar parks make aging and decommissioning an issue so moe and more plants need to be rebuilt. And more wind and solar in the mix also tends to bring out their one horrible drawback. They are intermittent and balancing becomes more onerous. No more free backup. Unreliable energy needs reliable energy for backup.
