Public purses are overstretched and those who control the purse strings will have to make ever more hard decisions. They try to stealthily cut social spending but eventually it comes out and makes people even angrier than before. And they can increase taxes and the cost of living with the same effect. The truth is that people are really pissed. I doubt that the majority that swept the Tories to power in the last election wanted a virtue-signaling green government. As soon as some old parties get clobbered in an election and they find out it was climate extremism, money for green virtue will dry up like a jellyfish in the Sahara sands.
