For LNG developers, another year of canceled projects

LNG project developers still live in a dream world. They are used to big projects, big numbers, big customers, big volumes, and fancy talks in posh hotel suites. Thats what you do when your customer buys 20 years of 5 bcm annually. But this is not the future. Replacing oil-based fuels with LNG is the frontier. It’s much better money for product and the potential market is immense. But it requires some actual market development skills and I have a hunch that those are missing. The only easy day was yesterday.

This week's decision by Australia's Woodside Petroleum Ltd to pull out of a big Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) project was the latest blow to a sector that has been heralded for its growth prospects…

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
