A Nuclear Revival Needs More Rules, Not Less

Yes, there is absolutely ridiculous overregulation in nuclear but that’s true for pretty much anything that’s big and important. Deregulation would be a worthwhile thing to do at any time but here we have a different, way more serious problem. If only one could have confidence that when a company has jumped through all the hoops and done everything required by regulation it can proceed with confidence. That’s never the case because, in spite of all permits, there will be activists and authorities who won’t help you plus there will be endless frivolous court battles. Your regulation aint worth crap when you can’t make its outcomes stick. Faith in authorities is bye-bye.
