A Semi-Competent Report On Energy Storage From Britain’s Royal Society

It will never be enough. With wind and solar, we have externalized energy storage. Coal, oil, gas, and nuclear are their own storage. In coal’s case, it is especially simple. Just pile the stuff up in a big mound and voila, your storage. Then you just burn what you need when you need it. No need to store fickle electricity. The fuel is the storage. Oil can be held in big cans called oil tanks. Gas in depleted underground gas fields or caverns. It’s all been done for decades and can be done economically and safely. No such thing with electricity. This riddle cannot be solved. Time to admit that.
