Mainstream media can put those lies out and not even retract as there is no penalty for lying as long as one is on the right political side. Just repeat the narrative like a good boy and you can say whatever you want. Over the last 3 years, many people have built up quite some distrust in mainstream media because of cumulative crises and the botched responses to them. It may not be enough yet though. We need to find a way to hold politicians, public figures, and the media accountable for the crap they say and publish.
