Politicians are superstars. That’s what we make of them and just like in a Brazilian telenovela, those who create the most disaster and drama dominate the flock. And that’s exactly the problem of free-for-all democracy. Whatever one gets for free is not being appreciated. I would prefer to have a much more involved citizenry and much weaker, almost unknown politicians. The Swiss president can use public transport and is mostly not even recognized. Superstar politicians tend to be way more liberal with other people’s money. I prefer boring to glitz every day.
