Does Germany really need LNG terminals?
That really depends on what kind of nation Germany wants to be. If Germany seeks to afford its citizens some of the most basic amenities it will need stable and affordable energy. There are a few possibilities that can be exploited. Germany could go full Monty on nuclear and build those power plants in record time – in nuclear case that’s still many years. It could also go for much more coal and continue to raze forests and entire towns for that. Or it can go for LNG. Oh besides, it can also go for wind and solar but neither stable nor is it affordable.
The German government now aims to build liquefied natural gas terminals to become less dependent on Russian gas. But are they really a sound investment, given the need for climate-friendly energy?
