Gas jostles for vital role in China’s energy mix

China has a problem with gas. But don’t believe that its problem comes from some sort of green policy. China does not give two dumps for anything green. They pretend they do to keep the rest of the world guessing or to support their green wares industries but fundamentally, they don’t care. But more gas would also mean much more storage for gas in China as they have a seasonal swing too. But China’s geology is not very conducive to this sort of thing so they always depend on producers’ flexibility which is expensive. Plus, coal is easy, they are used to it and it is cheap. China’s gas adventure has peaked.

The fuel has lost ground to coal and renewables but is seen as key to balancing needs for energy security with long-term efforts to decarbonise

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network.
