Methane is a global climate concern, but new technologies offer hope

Methane is a trace gas and this phrase does not really hit the issue on its head. Methane is 1,7 parts per million. Thats 0,00017% of the air you breathe. CO2 is 480 parts per million – more than 250 times as much and it’s still incredibly rarefied. CO2 is the real trace gas – methane is the almost untraceable gas. Measuring changes in methane in the atmosphere from orbit is like trying to sniff out the brand of dog food a dog that pooped on the sidewalk from orbit. Oh, as rarefied as methane is and as much as it’s bedeviled as a heat trapper, Natural Gas pipelines should be glowing white-hot considering methane is close to 100% in there.
