Oceans Retain Methane: New ‘Nature’ Study Finds Very Little Danger Of Methane Reaching Surface

The far more interesting question is where the massive hydrate deposits came from in the first place. Decomposing biomatter – I find that hard to believe especially in the deep oceans and at water depths of more than a few hundred meters. I believe that looking into the evidence for abiotic hydrocarbons would shed some light on this question. Oh, by the way. Those hydrates hold more energy than all conventional sources of oil and gas combined. Let’s hope the Japanese crack the code on extracting this promising resource economically. But OPEC sure would not like that.
