Russia Steps Up Energy Wars With Gas Cuts to Europe’s Top Buyers

Before that entire Ukraine mess, there were few certainties in energy companies and policymakers’ boardrooms. No matter what happens, Russia has always been a risk-free option for energy resources. If you wanted to play it safe you went to Russia and just dealt with the fallout. Thats over and I would wager it’s over for good. Now. Russian energy might still find its way into markets but carries a massive risk premium. This changes the deal significantly as Russia still has to invest a lot to replace volumes that will go down over the following years as their legacy fields are close to exhaustion. Bad timing.
