Soviet Collapse Echoes in China’s Belt and Road

When those overstretching their economies are on the brink, they start building cathedrals. China’s imperial ambitions will be its undoing as its the edges that fray. Chinese regional leaders that are far from the center will start wiggling free from the iron grip which will make ripples. 4 years ago I predicted Chinas downfall for 2030. Turns out that I might be wrong. It might be a whole lot earlier. Mess with the market and suffer the consequences.

According to one influential view, it’s ultimately a question of investment. Great powers are the nations that best harness their economic potential to build up military strength. When they become over-extended, the splurge of spending to sustain a strategic edge leaves more productive parts of the economy starved of capital, leading to inevitable decline.
