Tellurian expects first phase of Driftwood LNG to cost $14.5 billion

I know this is many years in the past but LNG had already a CAPEX cost of around USD 500 per metric ton capacity. This is not the most expensive I have ever seen (not even close) but at 1100 USD per ton capacity it’s not on the low end. Has LNG forgotten what it could do in the past? What happened to innovation and better development that was supposed to bring the price down even further? Or is just nobody interested in producing cheap LNG anymore? Are we all sold on the premise that energy will remain expensive forever?
