Alone, a person may be smart. In a group, most people transform into idiots. From mild to absolutely incapacitated. Churchill already said that the best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. When we need facts, little does it matter if there is any majority or other group of people believing them. Facts have a life of their own, they survive even if nobody believes them as reality does not pay any heed to the whims of credulous, naive, superstitious human beings. It just is.
