The pull is still strong, especially among those making a living from it. I talk to many in the conventional energy industry – smart people by many standards – but they cannot see the forest because of one tree. Sadly, the more educated many people are, the more likely they fall for those hypes. But there is no escaping gravity. Meanwhile, those going for the projects can do a lot to anchor them in reality for the time after the inevitable crash. Don’t make them so specific that your projects can only live in the new world – the new world that still needs to be invented. Be radical with vision, but put your nose to the grindstone when it comes to filling in the blanks. If your market does not exist yet, it never may.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
