Why Big Batteries Can’t Cure Wind & Solar’s Hopeless Intermittency

Batteries are expensive. And they can only store minutes of power swings if solar and wind default so we would need more than a mountain of them. As scary as this sounds, there is far worse. the sole cause for all these battery needs is intermittent energy. reliable energy sources don’t need batteries or any other such storage as they produce energy when you need them, not when the winds of change decide its time for a boost. So the entire cost of grid upgrades and batteries should be tallied upon the causes for such instability – win and solar operators. But they expect us to pick up the tab. How is that not a subsidy?
