Heat pumps have triggered a revolt against Net Zero

And so they will – here in my own Austria and in Germany, both not known to be particularly balmy during winter. Especially as the last couple of winters have been on the rather cold side. What heat does such a pump want to capture if there is so little to go around? They don’t work when it’s cold – many here have made the experience plus many people here own their little houses and they cannot afford to retrofit them to heat pumps assuming they would work at all. There is resistance coming up at the grassroots level. In Austria we have elections in less than 18 months, in Germany, they go for a new vote in 2025. Both countries have green government participation. In both, I predict that green won’t be a big factor after those elections anymore.
