If Europe Wants to Know Who is Killing it, the Answer is EUrself; Suicide by Net Zero, and Demographic Decline

In about 20 years, demographic decline will finally be the panic button everyone’s mashing at once. Pretty much the entire developed world — and a good chunk of the not-so-developed one — is shrinking fast. China, for instance, isn’t just slipping; it’s in a demographic free fall, and not solely thanks to the genius of the one-child policy. My own Austria would probably be down to 5 or 6 million already instead of the usual 8 to 9 million, if not for immigration. Not that immigration’s some magic fix either — it just swaps out the existing cultural and value structure for something else entirely, and finding migrants with anything resembling traditional Western values these days is about as likely as winning the lottery twice. A particularly grim case will be Ukraine: after the war, the demographic wreckage will be impossible to ignore, and you can bet there’ll be some frantic — and probably too-late — efforts to patch the damage.
