Japan utilities call for bigger strategic buffer LNG

That will cost a pretty penny. Japan’s geology does not lend itself to large-volume gas storage. This means that essentially they can only build LNG storage tanks which is a very expensive and technology-heavy solution. There is a much easier one which Japan has done for decades – coal. Just pile it onto a heap and you are good. So, Japan might build some additional LNG tanks but it will do what it has always done. Japan won’t ever be a gas storage destination like Europe can be if it wants to.
