Russia to Raise Gas Export to China via Eastern Route

When? In 2050? Or even later? It’s not like transporting gas from Eastern Siberia to China is free or even cheap. The fields in the East of Russia are not like the fields in Western Siberia that flow towards Europe. The Eastern fields are much harder to develop and there are many strewn over quite wide areas which makes siphoning necessary. That can all be done but it has a cost factor and before the war in Ukraine, this job was done by Western specialists. The Russian education system collapsed with the Soviet Union which means that the last domestic Russian engineering elite that can do this is in their Sixties. Pretty headlines don’t mean gas flowing.

Gazprom and CNPC agreed to increase the volume of Russian gas export to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline next year.
