Long-Duration Energy Storage Needed To Improve Decarbonization

Nature gave us a perfect storage medium. It’s called hydrocarbon. Hydrogen is a very aggressive, very hard-to-tame molecule. Carbon and oxygen can do the job. But when oxygen does it, the result is not something that we can directly use as an energy source. The combination of carbon and hydrogen does the job very nicely. The simplest hydrocarbon is methane and it’s also the cleanest one in combustion. And nature also did the job of storing solar energy for us in the past. The best thing we can do for nature is to use its gifts.
