The real question for any fair-minded shipowner is this: which fuel option delivers technological maturity, meets the highest safety standards with a proven track record, offers solid economics, and still lets you nod to the carbon-conscious crowd? The clear answer is LNG—an established, reliable choice that has been safely powering ships for decades. It’s readily available today, with newbuilds for almost any vessel type already designed to run on it. Even better, LNG offers operational certainty thanks to its flexibility—you can run it on standard LNG, biogas, or any blend of the two. And if optics matter, purchasing credits lets you label it “green.” Frankly, I wouldn’t consider anything else.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
