Power play in West Africa

A power grid, pan-African? Yeah right. Most countries don’t have a national grid that works for the population. But why go with decades-old, obsolete technology? Distributed generation is what Africa has, just not enough of it and on the wrong fuel. Diesel is expensive and in Africa, it’s very dirty. Putting Natural Gas gensets wherever a diesel stands would lake a lot of sense. Its cleaner, its cheaper and if you distribute LNG in truck trailers, it will be hard to steal powerlines. And the gas is there if you use it instead of flaring. Of course, this would upset cemented businesses that make a great living from the status quo. Don’t expect them to be happy about this idea.
