Renewables face increasingly level playing field

I cannot say how many times I have read that wind and solar are so competitive now, they dont need subsidies anymore. Strangely enough, as soon as someone so much as hints to removing subsidies here in Austria, the big howling sets in. I was told in no uncertain terms that by operators here that if subsidies are ever removed, they close shop the same day. So, who is right now?
