This won’t be an easy one for many reasons. First, Russia needs immediate offtake help and China is not logistically positioned to take great volumes. Also, chinas economy is going down and will need a lot less oil and gas in the future. But most importantly, working Russia’s upstream requires pretty specialized know-how that only a few companies possess. And none of them is in China. Russia would do it by itself if it could. This may be the beginning of the end of Russia as one of the big 3 oil and gas producers on Earth.
Moscow is attempting to deepen its close cooperation with Asian countries—in particular China—to minimise the impact of sanctions on its oil and gas sector
