Saudi Arabia slashes crude burn, taps gas for power generation by 2030

Believe it or not—and yes, I know how insane this sounds—one of the world’s reigning champs of oil-soaked opulence, the country practically leaking hydrocarbons from its pores and synonymous with private jets and golden faucets, is actually a poster child for going nuclear. That’s right: nuclear energy. Saudi Arabia, land of endless oil, is somehow also a perfectly rational candidate for baseload nuclear power. Shocking, I know. But hear me out—they’ve got the cash, the local and expat engineering brains, a serious image-management habit, and, oh yeah, burning crude for electricity is like setting Picasso paintings on fire to keep warm. It’s wasteful, dirty, and frankly beneath them. Use that precious oil where it counts—transport—and give the atom a shot, Saudi.
