Of course the Supreme Court has a big say in legality—when it bothers to function—but let’s not rob states of their God-given right to completely screw themselves. Let them pass their brilliant, flaming-trainwreck policies and stew in the fallout without a cent from the feds or pity from saner neighbors. Why deprive them of the full experience of their own legislative genius? It’s a live demo for the rest of us: “Here’s what happens when you toss decency and common sense into a wood chipper.” Not that it’ll matter, because five minutes later everyone’s too busy analyzing a Kardashian’s new hair color to remember why their water is on fire or their rights vanished overnight.
