As a pretty old GenXer, I was born into a world where half of the countries were prisons. When I reached adulthood, this giant príson collapsed and we thought we were on the brink of a new area. A good area. An area of freedom and possibility. But what that really did was take Sauron’s eye out. Saurons eye (i.e. the Soviets) hovered over us and was a constant, very visible threat. There were always the lunatics that wanted to make us like them but they never pierced through into the mainstream. Now they could. The lunatics were free to realize their full potential because now they were cute. Except that they were not. This started 30 years ago – it will take us 30 years to do away with it.

I was introduced to and met Rudi in Angola when he started to develop his Sub Saharan Africa network. At the time he worked for EconGas/OMV and he tried organizing longterm LNG supply for them under the unlikeliest of all circumstances.
