I worked for the United Nations in the Middle East for almost 5 years. I always had my misgivings about the organization but at heart, I was an avid internationalist. I thought that the UN and many other such organizations were fundamentally a force for good. Looking at it all today I am just sad at how naive I was. The world, at least the developed part of the world, has been taken hostage by managers. And with managers I mean those that roll the dice pretty much all the time. Sadly, I don’t see a way out of this that does not involve massive pain. This whole thing will be its own undoing. Nothing we can do but wait until it crashes under its own weight. We may have to undo the UN.
