Venus had Earth-like plate tectonics billions of years ago, study suggests

Venus is supposed to be the poster child for the runaway greenhouse effect. Never mind that this also is a theory that rests on some very questionable assumptions. When New Horizons passed by Pluto in 2015, pretty much everything we thought we knew about it was wrong. Oh, Pluto is far away you say. It’s not comparable to Venus. OK. How about Mars, the best-explored planet aside from Earth? The various rovers have disproven some very fundamental stuff we always assumed to be true about Mars. Venus has a thick atmosphere, and it’s a lot closer to the Sun than Earth. A pure Nitrogen atmosphere would very likely be just as hot.
